5 Bedroom Trends That Experts Predict Will Be Everywhere in 2024

Say sweet dreams to the cookie-cutter fads of the early 2000s; it’s time for a style wake-up call. According to New York-based interior designer Corey Damen Jenkins, we’re entering a new era of style in the bedroom.

“We are on target to see a pendulum swing with new trends.” We’re saying goodbye to the craze of beiges, grays and clean lines that “dominated the early 2000s,” Jenkins says. “Now 20-something years later, people are asking for something different.”

Jenkins finds that a lot of today’s trends are indicative of the pandemic and the fact that most of us were, for lack of a better word, stuck in our homes.

“It was like Mother Nature sent everyone to their rooms,” he says. “I think people realized that they could not travel and visit Hawaii or other beautiful crisp blue sky, lush green grass environments and they were living in a beige house. People discovered they like color more than they thought.”

Now, as we are able to travel and see the world once more, many are cognizant of the value of making the places we spend the most time deeply personal. The current trends that designers like Jenkins and luxury bedding brands like Matouk are seeing reflect this reprioritization of making the bedroom a sanctuary where you can escape. Call in Color

Color is a wonderful thing, and in 2024, color is having a major renaissance. However, that doesn’t mean that color isn’t intimidating (especially in traditionally mellow spaces like a bedroom). If you are a little wary of going somewhere over the rainbow with your paint color, Jenkins has some advice.

“Retain the beige and gray and then be open to bringing in a pop of green, navy, red or some other primary jewel tone color,” he says. He goes on to share that pops of color bring welcome brightness. (Here’s how to pick the perfect paint color for your space.)

A Quest for Individuality

The sun has set on the days of big box stores and everyone shopping from the same catalogue. Now Jenkins says his clients are searching for something that they can simply call their own.

“In the bedroom, we’re seeing a real interest in antique beds and nightstands. And antique doesn’t always mean Louis XVI or Queen Anne, it can be a more modern selection from the 1950s, ’60s or even the ’70s.” Estate sales and antique stores, which have always been favorite shopping spots for VERANDA, are coming back into style, as is repurposingfamily heirlooms.

Guest Bedroom Revival

Over the past year, all bedrooms have received more attention—including those for guests. However, in these spaces, people are more willing to take risks and play with pattern more than in their primary bedrooms. Twin beds, canopies, all-over pattern and other unique applications are consistently growing more popular in these sleeping quarters.

A Monochromatic Moment

Departing away from the more whimsical designs of the guest bedroom, soothing monochromatic styles are also making an impact in 2024. This trend strips the bed back to basics. Mindy Matouk, the creative director for luxury bedding brand Matouk explains it as “making the bed with just the necessary layers, only the essential pillows, and nothing on the bed that you don’t need or love.”

Quality Comfort

Comfort has always been king when it comes to bedding, but in a time when so much has changed so quickly, sleep is more important than ever. “Especially because the lines were blurred between work and home life with the pandemic… people are having a lot of difficulty sleeping,” shares Jenkins. Because of this, people are searching for comfortable, luxurious bedding.

“I personally feel the most important quality of a bed is how it feels when you get under the covers to go to sleep,” shares Matouk. “Of course we all want a bed that is aesthetically pleasing, but first let’s make sure the bed feels amazing, like the place that you most want to be.” The highest quality mattresses, sheets and duvets make all the difference.
