With natural lighting, plenty of ventilation, and other natural landscape features, biophilic bathroom design offers an aura of tranquility. Bathrooms are a space for people to relax and rejuvenate, and biophilic elements meet the requirements in a genteel manner. From earthy tones and nature-inspired walls to natural light and serene textures, these 7 designs serve as green inspiration for a green home.
A Bohemian Greens Covered Jacuzzi
Influencer and celebrity Kusha Kapila’s Gurugram apartment is a bohemian wonderland. From use of natural light to the pearl strings hanging around, her love for nature shines through her design choices. The apartment’s main bathroom is coloured in tones of hushed pink. Plenty of natural light flows through the wide walls, covered in translucent white. The standalone jacuzzi placed in the bathroom is enveloped by bohemian greens. And the light walls and greens give the bathroom a spa-like feel.
A Mix Of Traditional Earthiness
It was a chance encounter that led the homeowners, a well-travelled Bengaluru-based couple, to Ganesh Nair. Turned out, it was kismet. “They had recently purchased a villa in GoodEarth Malhar, an eco-village known for its Kerala-style architecture, and were keen on reflecting the style indoors too,” recalls the founder and principal designer of Whitespace, who visited the family’s previous home in a bid to gauge their style.
“Warm and traditional, but with all the facilities of a modern home—that’s what they stood for and that’s what they wanted,” avers Nair. And so, in keeping with the Kerala vernacular, he put together a palette of brick, stone “and lots of greens”. The details were defined by Athangudi and Moroccan tiles, patterned fabrics, tropical wallpapers, wrought iron furniture, and a tapestry of textures, as is evident in the pared back yet elegant appeal of this bathroom, doused in earthy appeal. – Vaishnavi Nayel Talawadekar
