9 Modern Farmhouse Bedroom Ideas

Getting ready for sleep in a modern farmhouse bedroom means never having to meander down the candle aisle at your local Home Goods again. When done right, this style is so cozy on its own it doesn’t need the help of sandalwood or cardamom. Psst: You also don’t have to fill your cart up with 500 mustard-colored throw pillows. To achieve peak cocoon-ness, you’ll want to appeal to some of your other senses—namely, touch and sight—with pieces like a chunky wood bed frame, a behind-the-headboard mural, airy paper lampshades, and art that references nature. Ahead, we’ve gathered nine modern farmhouse bedrooms that are sanctuaries through and through.

The Minimalist Modern Farmhouse Bedroom, Part 1

Leanne Ford was looking for the perfect balance when it came to designing her modern farmhouse bedroom: The veteran designer and renovator wanted it to feel bright and clean during the day, and warm and moody at night. A palette made up of black lighting, white paint, and a wood bed achieves just that. A custom charcoal scene by her friend Alexandra Gracik is a casual alternative to a framed canvas and ties it all together.

The Modern Farmhouse Bedroom With a Pitched Ceiling

Filling a room that’s got an awkward or angular ceiling with furniture can feel like a game of Tetris. The trick, as we learned from Montreal-based interior designer Luke Havekes, is to not overthink it: Strive for symmetry and then leave plenty of room around it to walk about.

The Minimalist Modern Farmhouse Bedroom, Part 2

If you’re working within even tighter parameters, pare everything back—down to the decor. By swagging a pendant lamp over the nightstand, author Lisa Przystup freed up this bedside table and used it as an opportunity to display a delicate tumbleweed she found on her travels.

The NorCal Modern Farmhouse Bedroom

Emily Ward’s motto? You can achieve warmth with texture rather than stuff. The primary bedroom in her West Marin, California, home is exhibit A. Beside the fact that she re-covered her Urban Outfitters headboard in Nickey Kehoe fabric, it’s entirely uncomplicated: Two sleeping pillows and a skirted bedspread that gel with the brown tones of the wood walls make up the rest.

The Plaid Modern Farmhouse Bedroom

Taxidermy and antlers weren’t Kele Dobrinski and Christian Valencia‘s clients’ cup of tea, but classic plaid? That was still on the table. The wallpaper the designers bought for this guest bedroom exude a rustic feel without skewing cheesy.

The Colorful Modern Farmhouse Bedroom

Rustic architecture and the rainbow can play nicely together if the bones are there. Peep this Australia farmhouse where the shiplap walls are swathed in salmon pink and the four-poster bed is a blue-green lacquer.

The Modern Farmhouse Twin Bedroom

If you’re looking for that old soul, shopping for secondhand furniture is the answer. Designer Kelsey Duda stumbled across this set of Baker twin beds on Chairish and completed the cozy space with dark throw blankets and a breezy paper lantern.

The Whimsical Modern Farmhouse Bedroom

Farmhouse living is all about embracing doors—outside and in. The imperfections and wear and tear on these vintage art panels give the space its cool factor and make the art come alive, as if you’re really falling asleep in the middle of a forest each night.

The Modern Farmhouse Bedroom…in a Cabin

Before Massachusetts-based designer Hannah Oravec and her husband renovated their Maine cabin, there was an orange polyurethane finish on the wood walls that was giving the house a bad 1980s glow, but it was nothing that lots of sanding and 5,000 square feet’s worth of stain couldn’t fix. On the ceilings in the main bedroom, she opted for Rubio Monocoat’s Natural color. For the rest, she went with a mix of Pure and Chocolate for a warmer touch. “I wanted it to still be a little dark and moody, to make it really cozy,” she explains.
