Travis Kelce Calls His Old Tweets “Nonsense,” But He Still Loves Olive Garden

Travis Kelce has some comments on his comments. Kelce, who has been receiving footballs with the Kansas City Chiefs since 2013, and increased media attention due to being linked romantically to Taylor Swift since the fall, chatted on his podcast with brother Jason Kelce about his 2010s-era tweets that have recently resurfaced.

On the latest episode of the Kelce brothers’ podcast, New Heights, released Wednesday, Travis enjoyed a light roasting for his creative spellings and passion for chain Italian restaurants. And you know what? He stands by his love for Olive Garden, lo these many years later.

“Don’t forget the free breadsticks,” he said, in response to a tweet in which he declared a trip to Olive Garden “schmackin’.” “Olive Garden was one of my favorites. Olive Garden, Red Lobster? I could go there right now and fuck my stomach up and just absolutely house those cheddar biscuits. Lil’ shrimp linguine, some chicken alfredo.”

Tweets about another of his fast food favorites, Chipotle, inspired the chain to temporarily change the name of its Kansas City location to “Chipolte” in homage to Travis’ oft-repeated typo when discussing his burning passion for burritos. He also noted that he’ll be spending Thanksgiving alone, and joked about eating KFC on the day, adding another stop to his grand drive-thru tour.

He said he’d been aware that old tweets might come back to haunt him someday.

“I’ve been trying to get all those tweets deleted since I got to the league,” Travis lamented, noting that “I was just using Twitter as like a diary. I’m just out here saying nonsense. I just gave a squirrel a piece of bread? And spelled squirrel like a jackass?”

He’s referring, of course, to referring to a furry friend “smashing” bread as a “squirle.” It is, to use Travis’ own preferred parlance, simply electric.

Jason, however, was supportive of Travis’ past wildlife bonding adventures.

“I think the only reason it’s getting crushed is because the spelling,” Jason said. “Outside of that, If I’m throwing bread out here and a squirrel’s eating it, I’d be pretty pumped up.”

“I made a friend, man,” Travis recalled. “I made a friend.”

As for the tweet where he joyfully and declared “NAPTIIIIIIIIIIIME!”, Travis ruefully said, “This is why I don’t tweet anymore, because it’s just nonsense.” However? “Lil lunchtime nap? All I need is a good 15,” he said, noting the tweet’s 12:05 p.m. timestamp.

Though Travis said the commentary was “torching me. I was getting lit up left and right,” Jason found the Thanksgiving spirit and had gratitude for the headlines.

“It surely made for an enjoyable week in rehashing some old tweets,” he said, with the blissful calm of a man whose college-era social media was not top-of-mind this week.

Reps for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce did not immediately return requests for comment.
