1

Upholstered Headboards

Designer Ariel Okin has always believed that “upholstered headboards and grasscloth wallpaper add warmth and texture to a bedroom, creating an enveloping cocoon to retreat to at the end of the day.” And we’ve never needed that kind of respite more than right now. Looking to add even more visual interest to your bedroom? Okin recommends adding “interesting artwork, like hand drawn botanicals or unique photography,” which will “add a personal element and draw the eye upwards.”

Scenes of Nature

Looking for more sunlight in your bedroom? “Bring the outside in through wraparound windows that can maximize panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and neighborhood,” advises David Thompson, the Design Principal at Assembledge+. “The notion of a treehouse is elicited when you can lie in bed, look outside, and feel surrounded by green canopies, rooftops, and sky.”

3

Plenty of DIY Features

Jessica Shaw, Director of Interior Design at Turett Collaborative, believes we’ll be seeing even more DIY features in bedrooms come 2022. “Stencils, temporary wallpaper, and decals are all a self-sustaining way to decorate your walls from home.”

4

Mixing and Matching

“I see bedroom decor with more personality and charm being at the forefront of trends in 2022,” says Emily Spanos of Emily June Designs. “The best (and most fun) way to achieve this is to mix and match your bedroom furniture rather than going with an outdated matching furniture set,” she advises. Spanos recommends selecting two different nightstands that complement one another, while simultaneously “coordinating with the room’s surrounding design.”

5

Dark and Moody Colors

Dark and moody-colored bedrooms will be en vogue in 2022, predicts Brittany Hakimfar of Far Studio. “People are taking more chances with color, specifically moodier colors for a bedroom that really creates an interesting and inviting space and something truly unique,” she adds.

6

Highlighting Architectural Elements

Architect and designer Valeria Senkina, founder of Dseesion, believes that the architecture of bedrooms will be a key trend in 2022, especially when it comes to “the use of environmentally friendly materials and the elaboration of lighting scenarios.”
